Motivational Monday: Believe You Deserve It

It’s so easy to lose motivation, and it can be an elusive enough thing to find in the first place. I know people who have given up all motivation, and while I desperately want to rekindle a fire within them, I can’t.

Why?

Because something has told them they can’t have what they wanted, or that what they wanted is useless.

When I talk to these people, it comes down to one fact. They lost the belief that they deserve the goal they want. That has in turn become the concept that what they wanted is never something they can attain, or that attaining it is pointless and would never bring happiness.

There’s a global outbreak of this exact type of motivational loss, too. Ever since the pandemic, everyone feels that nothing is worthwhile.

I get it, it was traumatic! Entire swaths of people died, or were left with debilitating illnesses. Inflation has run rampant in almost every nation I’ve heard of. Violence is on the rise. Things that brought joy before that period no longer seem to. It’s just a mess, years afterward.

Now, stop and think, where were you before the pandemic? What did you want for yourself, for your family?

Did you stop working on that goal and never get back to it? Did you try to get back to it and found new barriers had sprung up?

When, in the midst of all the chaos, did you allow yourself to take on the belief that you don’t deserve to have the things you want to have in life?

Did you know that’s depression talking? It probably has its good friends, hopelessness and anxiety, hanging out with it.

You still deserve the same things you did before the world went upside down. You still deserve to achieve your goals and feel that satisfaction at having done so. You still deserve to have a life you enjoy. You still deserve to love and be loved.

If you need to, find a therapist to help you accept these things about yourself. Whatever you do, don’t give up on you for another moment. You are the only one who can truly understand the importance of your goals and what they mean to you.
