There are random things in life that make me unreasonably happy. The mere sight of these items will turn me into a cross between excited puppy and hyper toddler with a new present. Among these items is the “little basket.”
We’ve all seen them, the grocery carts that look like the one in the image above. I LOVE them. Especially since I shop for myself. They’re easy to get things into and out of. I don’t have to be a contortionist to reach the things in the bottom corner. They don’t take up an entire aisle while I’m trying to figure out where the store moved the things I need.
On top of it all, they’re just cute!
One day my older daughter went to the grocery store with me. These small carts had just begun appearing in the area, but for me, it was love at first sight. Not every store had them yet, so seeing them was still a surprise.
We pulled into the parking lot and I saw a line of these little buggies in the return area and squealed, “Ooh! They have the little baskets!”
My daughter looked at me, her expression clearly stating she felt I’d lost my mind (not that this is new), and said, “YOU are a little basket.”
I laughed… and then I agreed with her. “I am. I really, really am.” Then I giggled and she lost all hope.
Ever since then, I can’t see one of these things without remembering that moment, and now, in addition to loving them so much, I often get a goofy smile on my face. I love that no one knows why I suddenly look like I’m going to double over in laughter.
But hey, what can you expect from a little basket?
